The person that has mercy on the poor is Happy. - Proverbs 14:21 -

Think about that for a moment. We are so busy looking for happiness: We’ve been told it comes from the newest material things made available to us every day. The world offers a lot of “things” and they use some very powerful “lures” to try and convince us that we need those things. Although one may experience a temporary feeling of elation, it does not satisfy, at least not for long. But God promises blessings, peace and true happiness when we show mercy on the poor. We are not called to figure out why they’re poor or give excuses to not help just because we do not understand their poverty. Yet all throughout the word of God, he instructs and commands us to show “mercy” on them. To “relieve” their oppression. When someone is homeless, they have reached a state of “oppression” or another word as Pastor Rick has taught, “Crushed” crushed emotionally, spiritually and physically. And the Lord says to “relieve” their oppression. That is what we do every Saturday from 5-6pm on North Street in Daytona Beach. We bring our friends  a “relief” even if just for an hour out of their day on the streets. A nourishing meal, uplifting music and most of all we show them Gods Love. “Let your light (love) so shine that people might see your good deeds (mercy on the poor) and Glorify your Father in heaven.” When we do this, God ensures we experience his kind of Happiness and Joy. (John 15). Let us remember what Jesus said, “Love one another as I have loved you…” John 15:12, John 13:34-35.

It is a sin to belittle one’s neighbor; blessed are those who help the poor.” Proverbs 14:21

Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” Proverbs 14:31

“They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor.” Psalm 112:9

For he stands at the right hand of the needy, to save their lives from those who would condemn them.” Psalm 109:31

Do not let the oppressed retreat in disgrace; may the poor and needy praise your name.” Psalm 74:21

But I know the LORD will help those they persecute; he will give justice to the poor.” Psalm 140:12

“Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Mathew 19:21

“But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind.” Luke 14:13

“In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas), who was always doing good and helping the poor.” Acts 9:36

“Cornelius stared at him in fear. What is it, Lord?’ he asked. The angel answered, Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.’” Acts 10:4

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress…” James 1:27

There are many verses all throughout the word of God regarding his mercy and the mercy he instructs for us to demonstrate to the poor.  For more study and inspiration see the following  link which I have come across during  my research: “Caring for the Poor”   also “80 Bible Passages on Social Justice”
